São Tomé and Príncipe officially designated two marine protected areas (MPAs) off its coast. The sites include Ilhéu das Rolas–Malanza–Jalé and Santana, covering critical habitats like mangroves and reefs. The government plans to establish a national network of eight MPAs in total.
