"Unsafe food causes 866 million illnesses and 1.5 million deaths annually. Children under five are disproportionately affected, suffering one-third of foodborne diseases. Chemical contamination, particularly lead and arsenic, is the leading cause of deaths. Global economic losses due to foodborne diseases are estimated at $310 billion to $647 billion annually."
